The SBC runs Linux. You can write your own applets in Lua, and upload them to the SBC

You can ssh into the SBC (Squeeze Box Controller) (enable via settings → advanced → ssh):

ssh root@10.10.200.104

• Install with package manager

Installed this server software on my Ubuntu laptop by downloading and installing the proposed Debian package. After installing the server can be configured with a browser on http://localhost:9000/
